Directions

  1. 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 15”x 10” jelly roll pan. If you like, line the pan with parchment paper and grease the paper.
  2. 2
In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. 3
Place the butter and water in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a boil. Stir into the flour mixture, mixing just until combined.
  4. 4
Combine the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla. Add to the cake mixture, and mix just until combined.
  5. 5
Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until a pick inserted into the center comes out clean. Set aside to cool.
  6. 6
Place the brown sugar, butter, cream, and salt in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Continue boiling for 2 minutes.
  7. 7
Remove from the heat, and stir in the vanilla. Add the confectioners’ sugar, and stir until thoroughly combined and smooth. Stir in the pecans.
  8. 8
Spread the frosting over the top of the cooled cake. Allow the frosting to set about 20 minutes before serving.
