Spray a 913 baking dish with non-stick spray.

Add the diced bread to the dish. Then mix in the apples. Set aside.In a mixing bowl, stir together the eggs, milk, and sugar until smooth. Then add the remaining spices and mix until well-combined.

Pour the mixture evenly over the diced french bread trying to cover as much of the bread pieces as possible. Divide the butter cubes amongst the mixture, pushing it down slightly into the mixture.For the crumb topping, in another bowl, stir together the brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, followed by the butter. Slowly add in the flour until combined. Use clean hands to divide and crumble the mixture over the bread mixture. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight (or at least 2-3 hours).Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Bake uncovered for approximately 40-45 minutes or until the french toast is cooked in the middle and lightly golden on top.

Garnish with chopped pecans or walnuts if desired. Slice and serve with syrup.
